“Sustainability and Empowerment”

The International Conference on Asia-Pacific Digital Libraries (ICADL), which started in Hong Kong in 1998 and over the years traveled many countries in the Asia-Pacific region, is a major digital library conference. Along with JCDL and TPDL, ICADL is held annually as one of the three top venues for connecting digital library, computer science, and library and information science communities. This year, ICADL 2024 will be held from December 4th to 7th, 2024 at the Monash University, Malaysia as an onsite face-to-face conference; however, for those who cannot attend, ICADL 2024 will allow them to present their papers online and join sessions.

ICADL 2024 will be co-located with the annual meeting of Asia-Pacific chapter of iSchools (AP-iSchools; https://ischools.org/). ICADL 2024 will provide an excellent international forum for researchers from not only Asia-Pacific regions but also all over the world to meet people with different backgrounds but common research interests to exchange their cutting-edge knowledge, experience and practices in various relevant issues in digital libraries, Library and Information Science (LIS), and other related fields.

The theme for ICADL 2024 is "Sustainability and Empowerment". Implementations of digital libraries and digital archives are no longer novelties, but familiar and accepted components of the information landscape providing a rich environment for evaluation of their actual and potential impact. This conference welcomes papers that explore the contribution that digital libraries and archives make to the sustainability and empowerment of communities, organisations and individuals, including the risks and barriers to achieving sustainability and empowerment goals.

Proceedings of ICADL 2024 are going to be published by Springer as an LNCS volume, which is indexed by Scopus. This year, we have the following four submission categories: full papers, short papers, practice papers, and demo/poster papers.

The Best Paper and the Best Student Paper will be awarded by the Program Committee and selected among the accepted full papers. Candidates for the Best Student Paper award should have students as first authors.

If there is any interest for organizing workshops, tutorial, and panel sessions with ICADL 2024, we will consider them on request. The information about the accepted events will put on the conference website and we will encourage attendees to join the events.

The review for practice paper submissions will put less emphasis on the novelty and more on real world practices and applications of DL technologies in institutions or companies.

Submission

All submissions must be in English, in PDF format. Papers should follow Springer Computer Science Proceedings guidelines (https://www.springer.com/gp/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-guidelines). All papers are to be submitted via the conference’s EasyChair submission system (https://easychair.org/cfp/icadl2024).

Formatting & Submission Lengths

The lengths of submissions should be as follows:

  • Full papers: 12-14 pages + references
  • Short papers: 6-8 pages + references
  • Practice papers: 6-8 pages + references
  • Demo/poster papers: 4-6 pages + references

The review process is double-blind. At least 3 Program Committee members will review each submission. The review for practice paper submissions will put less emphasis on the novelty and more on real world practices and applications of DL technologies in institutions or companies. Sufficient time will be given to the oral presentation for accepted papers in all submission categories either in-person or using an online presentation platform to be chosen later (e.g., WebEx). Each accepted paper must be presented by at least one of the co-authors.

Visa and Other Infomation

Visa

All participants entering Malaysia must have own a valid passport, for at least 6 months after the intended date of departure. Climate

Malaysia has a tropical climate with a hot and humid temperature throughout the year with two rainy seasons – one from March to April and another between October and December. All that matters here is your personal comfort. Hence, it is advisable that you pack some light cotton or linen clothes which are also easy to dry during rainy weather. Malaysia accepts a casual and a cool clothing all-round the year. You can expect a temperature of 31° / 24°.

Currency

The official currency in Malaysia is the Malaysian Ringgit, which is issued and overseen by the Bank Negara Malaysia. If you're buying your travel money online you may also see the official code being shown - MYR. In stores and restaurants, Malaysian Ringgit prices are likely to use the currency symbol RM. Most major credit cards are accepted with Visa and MasterCard being the most widely so, but many shops and banks charge a transaction fee of between 2-4%.
