Backgrounds and Aims
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought many changes to our community. The most significant change would be that we have experienced many online conferences and learned a lot about online collaboration and meetings. We are willing to organize the future ICADLs as face-to-face conferences as soon as possible when the pandemic has ceased because face-to-face meetings will provide the participants with many opportunities to directly exchange their ideas and build networks. However, on the other hand, the online conferences have lowered barriers for young researchers and students to participate in international conferences because the costs to participate in offline events are not negligible. Thus, we have learned benefits and limitations of online and offline conferences during the pandemic. This session is planned as a forum for all participants of ICADL 2021 to discuss the organization of the future ICADLs. Past ICADLs were hosted at many locations in Asia-Pacific, and it is supposed to continue its travel when the COVID-19 pandemic is over. However, it would not be appropriate to simply use the traditional face-to-face conference model after the pandemic. This session invites three discussants who have been involved in the ICADL and have different views based on their working/learning experiences in the different parts of the world. This session is planned as a forum for all participants of ICADL 2021 to discuss our next steps.
